This page explains what personal data I collect through open kitchen. (the newsletter, this website, the free guides in the pantry and the back of house community), why I collect it, and what you can do about it. I've tried to keep it as plain as possible.
open kitchen. is run by Guillaume Andries, trading as table.35, a sole proprietorship registered in Belgium. Business address: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwstraat 35, 2600 Berchem, Belgium. VAT number: BE1013581407. I'm the data controller, so if you have a question about your data, email me at [email protected].
When you subscribe, I get your email address and your name if you give it. If you fill in the welcome survey, I also get your answers, like your cooking level, what you want to get better at, who you usually cook for and how you like to learn.
When you get a free guide or join back of house, I get your email address and name, what you downloaded, and anything you post, comment or message in the community.
When you read the emails or visit the site, the platform records things like whether an email was opened, which links were clicked, how you found the newsletter (for example through Instagram), your device and browser, and your approximate location based on your IP address.
When you reply to an email or write to me, I get whatever you put in that message. If I ever sell paid products, payments are handled by Stripe and I never see your full card details.
I send you the newsletter and the emails you signed up for based on your consent. You can withdraw it anytime with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email.
I deliver the guides you request and run the community because you asked for them, which makes it necessary to provide what you signed up for.
I use survey answers and reading stats to make the letters better and decide what to write about. I also use data to keep the site secure and stop spam and abuse. Both are based on my legitimate interest in running a good, safe newsletter, and the survey is always optional.
If you buy something, I keep the records that Belgian accounting and tax law require.
I don't sell your data, and I don't share it with brands. If a letter ever has a sponsor, the sponsor gets nothing about you personally. At most they see overall numbers, like how many people read the newsletter.
The newsletter, website, guides and community run on beehiiv. My email runs on Google. Paid products, if I ever offer them, go through Stripe. These companies only process your data on my behalf and under their own data protection agreements.
Some of them are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. When that happens, it's protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
I keep your data for as long as you're subscribed or a member. If you unsubscribe, I keep your email address on a suppression list so you don't get emailed again by mistake. If you ask me to delete everything, I'll do that too. Purchase records are kept as long as Belgian law requires.
This site uses cookies that it needs to work, for example to keep you logged in, plus analytics from beehiiv to see how pages are used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though logging in may not work without them.
You can ask me to show you the data I have on you, correct it, delete it, limit how I use it, or send it to you in a portable format. You can also object to how I use it or withdraw your consent at any time. Just email [email protected] and I'll get back to you within a month.
If you think I've handled your data wrong, you can file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit) at dataprotectionauthority.be. I'd appreciate the chance to fix it first though.
open kitchen. isn't meant for children. If you're under 13, please don't subscribe or join the community.
If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top. If the change is a big one, I'll tell you in the newsletter.
